Have you ever wondered why the richest people on earth are the unhappiest? Have you ever wondered why even after you’ve acquired those items you’ve always wanted, soon after you find yourself wanting something else?
You got the house, now you want the best decor…you get the best decor, but when your neighbors redo their landscaping, suddenly you get an urge to visit the nearest Home Depot. You have to outdo them, you still want more.
I’m no better. It’s just how we are. Even when we finally get what we want we always want more. We can’t seem to be satisfied. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize why that is.
First of all, we’re not meant to be satisfied on earth, I imagine that’s because what we really long for isn’t here on earth, but is in Heaven.
Secondly, if we ever could stay satisfied, we would never be motivated to do anything. We would become stagnant and never fulfill our purposes. We would stay in one place, and we’re not meant to do that. There’s too many people who need to be helped and too many things that need to be done.
We’re also not satisfied because we rarely count the blessings we currently have, instead we’re always looking to what we don’t have. If we just stopped and decided to be grateful for wonderful gifts we already have, we wouldn’t have time to want more.
Another reason we’re not satisfied, is because we rarely follow our hearts, for the most part, we chase dollars and force ourselves to do things solely to make money. We don’t stop to do those things we were meant to do because those things usually don’t produce the amount of money we’d prefer.
The reality is, that we have to provide for our families, but the truth is, because of cultural pressures, we over-provide: if we have warm shelter, food to eat and clothing to wear, we’ve done our jobs, but of course, we’re not satisfied with that.
I’m guilty. I want the big house and the huge plot of land to match and I honestly believe that at some point God will give me the desires of my heart, since after all, He put them there. But once I get them, will I allow myself to be satisfied?
What about you? Are you counting your blessings?

Kiesha,
I love your first point.
I agree. We’re designed with a need and longing that only God can fulfill. I think that’s why we all search for a sense of belonging.
Paul tells us to be content with whatever state where in, but that’s not the same as being satisfied, is it?

Hi Brad,
Thanks for stopping by! You’re so right, being content isn’t the same with being satisfied, but it’s probably the closest will get.

Why We’re Never Satisfied | Highly Favored…
Have you ever wondered why the richest people on earth are the unhappiest? Have you ever wondered why even after you’ve acquired those items you’ve always……
In philosophy class, i learned that an human being is like a pierced objects, we try to fullfilled our desires but we will never be satisfied. In the other hand, i learn that the purpose in life is to be in harmoney with our mind, so we can really be satisfied, not with material things.

Hi Lucy,
Thanks for sharing you’re thoughts. You’re absolutely right that material things can’t satisfy, but for some reason, people think they can.

I think we’re all guilty at some point, but I appreciate the reminder to allow myself to be satisfied with every blessing from above. Truly contentment is one character trait that every Christian should possess. And we must remember that contentment can not be found in things, but only in Christ.

Hi Lisa,
Yeah, I guess we are. I think being conscious of the fact makes it easier to handle those times of restlessness.

We’re never satisfied because we have mission in life to fulfill and we’re seeking on ways and if what will be that mission assigned to us by God. We’re still searching for the things that can fill in our entire life here on Earth and for that we have many things to do.

Everyone in this world has mission in vision in life and for me that is the reason why I am never satisfied because I have some goals in this world and that is to achieve success. Sometimes even though I already achieved my goals in life but still I am never satisfied maybe God has planned something for me and that’s the happiness I am searching for.

We are not satisfied because we are living in a world wherein change happens everyday. We may be happy with the things we have but we still crave for more because we want things that we think would make us satisfied. We may not find contentment here on earth but still we could find the happiness that we need by counting our blessings and be thankful for them. Great post! Thanks.

So true!.. If a person is not contented with what he have then he won’t be satisfied either. Even the richest man on Earth is still not contented and still he’s aiming for more. Two thumbs up for you Kiesha.

Awesome post! If we were totally satisfied, we would be living in a very lazy world. People would not be compelled or have a drive to do much of anything.

Hi Glenda!
You’re absolutely right. We have to remind ourselves of that when get frustrated, because it’s so easy to forget.
