Day 29:
Purpose #4: You Were Shaped for Serving God
Service is NOT an option
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
Question to Consider:
What is holding me back from accepting God’s call to serve him?
The first pitiful excuse that comes to mind is: “I’m physically tired.” It’s not something I’m proud to admit, but this is the #1 reason why I’ve drastically reduced the amount of ministries I’m involved in at church. I also felt the need to do so, because I felt that all that I was doing left no time for my family – how could I claim to be a believer and yet the very people whom God has entrusted me to care for have been totally neglected. It seemed contradictory.
I know my exhaustion is not just the result of having too many responsibilities, it’s also the result of wrong food choices and also spending too much time working. I’m working to change. I’m trying to find ways to free up more of my time. But in the meantime, I’ll continue to do my best as I serve in the mime ministry and will continue to do what I can to help others around me.
So, what’s keeping you from answering your call to serve?
“Whenever you serve others in any way, you are actually serving God and fulfilling one of your purposes.” p. 228
