Day 6:

This is is not my home

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. II Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:18 (KJV)

Question to Consider:
How should the fact that life on earth is just a temporary assignment change the way I am living right now?

If we view life as a temporary assignment, it would make the pain of loss and disappointment seem less great. Material things will become unimportant because they have less significance when viewed from a temporary lens.

If we remind ourselves that this earth is not our home, it would explain why many of us are never satisfied – it’s because we looking for something that’s not on this earth.  That’s why people are always searching for something better, it’s because we long for heaven and often don’t even realize it.  This chapter encourages us to accept this so that we can stop searching for material things of this earth to satisfy us, and learn to focus on the most important things.

Knowing all of this should change the way I work, how I spend my money and makes spending with my family and those I love an even greater priority.

    Hi Kiesha,

Thanks for sharing this awesome lesson in NOT judging according to appearances. We already have what we seek. Heaven is within. We choose where to move our focus; from the blessings we have and continue to receive or the physical world, which is transitory and illusory.

I will keep in mind today and the rest of my days your great quote, that life is a temporary assignment.

    Great post!

Our citizenship is not of this world, but of the heavenly kingdom. We are here for a time, for a purpose, and then move on. Definitely, the fact that we are here temporarily, and for a purpose, should shape our thinking and actions. If we are able to find out that purpose, then we can ensure that our words and actions are geared toward fulfilling that purpose. I’m not there yet, but like to think I’m on my way. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration you give.

    Hi Tuminee!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. None of us are there yet, but the fact that we are striving and trying to stay on the right path is what God expects from us. I’m glad you found this post to be inspirational and hopefully, encouraging. :)

  4. I think that when you look at life from the perspective of it being temporary…it forces you to reevaluate WHAT you do and WHY you do it.

Interesting enough…I’ve been asking myself, “is it worth it”…because this life is temporary. I believe as human beings in general, we need to be more reminded of this.

God bless you in Jesus name.

    Hi Naquan!
Yes, I ask myself the same thing. The thing is when you ask yourself this question everyday, you discover there really isn’t much that seems worth putting your soul in jeopardy. Of course, I’m still a work in progress, I haven’t arrived, but this is just to say that “Is it worth it?” is a powerful question.

  5. Indeed it is. I am learning that NOTHING is worth compromising your soul for. No fleshly desire, sin, weakness…NOTHING! God is showing me how to walk after the spirit and NOT after the flesh everyday. Its not easy, but with the strength and leadership of the Holy Spirit, it can be done.

Nevertheless, thanks for such a brief YET awesome article…I pray that others are blessed from it in Jesus name. God bless you Kiesha.
