How do you learn to trust God?

faith
Learning to trust God is not an easy feat, but it’s essential if you truly want to deepen your relationship with Him. In fact, that it what faith is – it’s trusting solely in God.

God provides with countless opportunities to strengthen our faith muscles. He tests us to see how we will handle our finances; how we treat people; and how we live our everyday life. We often freeze up when we’re presented with these tests because they threaten our comfort.

Years ago, when I was still in college, I was also working full-time. I wanted to quit my job so that I could have more time to spend with my family, but I didn’t know how my husband and I would survive with my part of the income greatly reduced. My family was important to me and I hated the fact that I was always on the go – always away at either work or school. Something within me knew something had to go, it couldn’t be school because that was my way of making progress so that I wouldn’t be stuck in a dead end job.

In heart’s terms my family should have won, and I should have quit my job and allowed God to provide – but I lacked faith, in other words, I didn’t trust God.

It wasn’t until many years later, when I was forced to leave a stressful job that I finally got a chance to see God work His miracles of provision. I could have witnessed it years before and would have been set free from the bondage I was in, but I was too stubborn. So God waited until time had worn me so far down, that I had absolutely no choice, but to trust Him.

I tell you with absolute joy and gratefulness that during the worst years of my life, I received the best from God. Everytime I got to a point where I didn’t know where I would turn, where my next meal would come from, where I would lay my head – He stepped in and worked a serious miracle.

After that point, I had to trust God with my life, because I finally learned that He had better things in store for me than I could have ever planned for.

Although, at times it can be scary, I encourage you to practice trusting God with every aspect of your life so that you may experience the true freedom that comes with being His child.

Here are 3 ways to strengthen your faith – all you need is mustard seed-sized faith to begin with.

1.  If you are always worrying about finances – stop worrying. Worrying isn’t going to pay the bills, so exchange your worries for prayers. If you’ve done all you can, pray about it, then let God handle it. If the car gets repossessed, it’s not the end of the world, God may have someone on the bus He wants you to meet. In other words, He has a plan and sometimes bad things have to happen in order for Him to work it out for your good. Just trust Him.

2.  If you’re having relationship issues – in whatever form, family or romantic – stop trying to fix them yourself. People are going to do what they are going to do – let them and trust that God will indeed, work it out. Your trust should be in Him, not in another person – if they’re doing things to hurt you, rather than trying to retaliate, simply step back, pray and let it go. If someone isn’t doing what you think they should, stop trying to control them, and love them anyway, even if it must be from a distance.

3.  If you feel confused about a decision you must make, it’s a sign that you need to be in communication with God. Talk to Him about it, and then listen to what He puts in your heart. Often we know what we’re supposed to do, but we get confused because it’s in conflict with what we want to do. When we do what God wants us to do, we often find out that it actually is what we want – we just didn’t know it. God will order your steps if you let him.

Everyday presents a new opportunity to become stronger in your faith. Don’t let the pitfalls of yesterday hinder your growth – if your faith wavered yesterday, that doesn’t determine what will happen today. Each day is a new chance to become closer to God.
