After: Curtains and Chair
Over the passed weekend I decided to finally re-upholster my dining room chairs . I planned ahead and went shopping for fabric a few days ahead of time so I could devote a whole day to the project without having to run out and buy supplies.
While in the store, I became overwhelmed by fabric overload – there were just too many choices. I went up and down the aisles several times and had a bag full of samples before I just decided to call it quits and go home and get a second opinion from my hubby.
I felt a little defeated that I couldn’t make a decision – it should have been simple, but if I was going to pay the price for quality fabric, it had better be a design we could live with.

Before
So, I began making my way to the exit, when the word “Clearance” called out to my from the corner of my eye. I had to take a peek. I didn’t have very high expectations, but there it was…the most beautiful fabric in one of my favorite colors…maroon. And it was 50% off the already marked down sale price.
Needless to say, I was smiling from ear to ear, especially when the cashier took yet another 50% off the end of the roll yardage. I was estatic and grateful. I felt so warm and fuzzy inside – I felt God smiling at me.
In fact, I felt His presence the whole time. Something in my soul felt blessed by this simple gesture of love. Why? Because in addition the fact that I just randomly found the perfect fabric, at the perfect price – it came in just the perfect length to recover four dining room chairs and also to make four matching curtain panels for my windows!

Every curtain needs a perfect hem
Of course, I hadn’t planned for the curtains – but God’s plans have always been greater than mine. Not only did I have exactly enough – not a scrap left over – but as I finished the last curtain hem, just as I pulled the fabric away from the needle, my bobbin ran out of thread.

It was as if God wanted to be sure I knew without a doubt that it was Him all along that had arranged the whole thing especially, just for me.
Again, I began to feel that warm and fuzzy feeling. My soul bubbled with joy and appreciation because I knew God was smiling on me yet again.
I could have never arranged such perfection, in fact the more I try to do something perfect, the more out of whack it gets. Have you ever had an experience like this one, where you can’t take any of the credit for yourself, because you know it was nobody but God who worked it out? Who else can turn an “on-a-whim” fabric purchase into the most perfect renovation project ever? Who knew a sewing project could be a spiritual experience?

After
When we learn to recognize and appreciate the small day-to-day things God does for us, it cultivates a joyful spirit within. This example let’s me know that God is in control; it is evidence that when He touches something He can multiply it like He did for the woman and her oil; like

what He did with the two little fishes and five loaves of bread. Yes, I know fabric and bread and oil are totally different instances, but my point here is that God provides in perfect measurements. Just for us, every day and when He blesses it, there is always enough.
