22 Days til Christmas!
The Christmas season is always a busy one. It’s a high traffic time. No other time of year brings the most out-of-town guests. Family and friends trickle in at various times this season and it’s easy to get so caught up in entertaining and volunteering. I’m known for getting so caught up in making sure everyone else is happy and helping others that I often forget the most important person in my life – my spouse.
I know I’m not alone in this – the Christmas season brings joy, but also stress that can put a strain on marriages at a time when things should be the merriest. This season, instead of allowing the bustle of friends and family to take my focus off of my spouse, I’m going to be sure to take time out for just us. Even when schedules conflict, there are some little things that can be done to let him know that I care and despite all the holiday madness, I am still thinking of him.
Here’s a few things that can make a merry marriage this Christmas season:
- Take a few moments to add some Hershy Kisses to your spouse’s lunch box
- Put a quick note in your spouse’s lunch box (goes good with the previous suggestion)
- Take a moment to praise your spouse for something they’ve done recently that made you smile
- Greet your spouse with a hug and kiss in the morning or when either of you gets home from work – no matter what happened the day before.
- Whenever you part – leave each other with a hug and kiss – no matter what…
- Give yourself enough time to purchase the gift your spouse wants, not the gift you want them to have. Yes, that means you may have to purchase that specialty sports item your husband’s been drooling over. (Or those gorgeous boots your wife’s been longing for.)
- Take some time to collaborate on other family gifts together – shop together and make the most of your time together (you may even sneak in a brief dinner date after a long day of holiday shopping.)
No matter what you do, be sure to remain loving throughout this Christmas season. Don’t let financial strains or a house full of relatives make you spew negative comments or resentments toward your spouse. Remember, you’re in this together. Choose to be loving and merry this Christmas season. Choose to let nothing keep you from enjoying a merry marriage!
