24 Days til Christmas: Do you need a reason to give this season?

Some people need a reason to do nice things for others – I think that’s why the Christmas season is so popular, because it warms the heart to see your loved one’s face light up with joy when they receive the gift they’ve been waiting all year for.
Christmas is a great reason to get in the spirit of giving, but it should be the only time we go out of our way to show others that we love them. It’s sad that holidays are the only time some people see their families. It’s even sadder that some people are glad that’s the only time they see family. It’s a shame that we often try to cram what we should be doing all year into the holiday season. Yes, we should get excited when the Christmas season rolls around, but not for the usual reasons. We should get excited because we are celebrating the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ – that’s why it’s called Christmas after all – not Xmas, but Christmas. Although Jesus wasn’t born in December, but instead some time in April, we still celebrate now, the wonderful freedom that comes as a result of his birth and subsequent death.
While on earth, He commanded us to love one another and give without limits. Therefore, I encourage you this season to start a new tradition that lasts all year – go out of your way for others as if everyday is a part of the Christmas season. Start today with a renewed “Christmas Everyday” attitude.
