Last Friday, as an intoxicated woman attempts to put out a cigarette a little too close to the edge, she accidentally slips and falls into the subway pit. Frantic onlookers attempt to help, but were discouraged from entering the pit. Instead, all they could do was desperately attempt to signal the approaching subway train.
The operator told reporters that she knew something was wrong and immediately hit the emergency brake. She says she saw someone point to the tracks and that’s when she noticed the woman lying there. The train however, was still going too fast and just as it came to a halt the operator says the last thing she saw was the train rolling over the woman. “God, please let her be okay,” she prayed.
Miraculously the train stopped just short of killing the woman. Yes, she was under the train, but aside from scraped knees, she was inexplicably unharmed. Even after the train stopped, and the woman was able to get up, she fell again, just short of the third which could have fatally electrocuted her. Amazing!
This just shows how us, how when God decides to step in, nothing can stop His will. He truly does love us, even when we are not at our best. He helps us even in the midst of our sin. Only God can swoop in and place a shield of protection around us. I praise God for protecting this woman. Only He can create the exact conditions that kept this woman alive: the concerned onlookers, the well trained operator, the prayers she sent up, and the missed third rail.
I watched the news clip and I tell you, it didn’t look like the train missed her, but God…
It brings joy to my soul whenever I see God working. Hallelujah!
