10 JulThe Magnificence of God’s Plan

This story is going to sound too magnificent to be true, but I promise you this this just recently happened to me and is completely true. I’m sharing it because it is a great example of the magnitude of God’s glory.
My husband and I had been looking feverishly for a house for our family for months. We had been living in a cramped apartment and the environment in the complex was deteriorating. People were constantly loitering, blasting loud music, fighting and participating in other unsafe behaviors. Apartments had begun to get robbed more frequently and we worried if ours would be next.
Every time we discovered a home we liked, something would happen, either we didn’t qualify or couldn’t afford the payment. We were becoming discouraged, but we kept looking.
We found a house we could get on Land Contract, and it seemed promising, but every week things kept changing – one minute the answer was “yes”, the next something would come up and the answer would be “no.” The uncertainty was killing us. Finally at the last minute just before our tentative move in date, we got word that we could move. However, by that time, we’d had ample time to really think about it and we decided that the house wasn’t right for our family. So it was back to the drawing board for us – back to the house hunt.
We looked and looked and came close a couple other times, but things just didn’t work out right for us, so we called our search off. We prayed about it and decided to continue living in our cramped quarters and do what we could to endure the setting until next year some time. We didn’t want to rush into something just to discover that it was just as bad if not worse than our current situation. We wanted to live in a safe area, but within our financial means. We decided to trust and wait.
Two or three days had passed when one day, I got stuck in construction traffic. The right lane had been closed all week, but that day traffic was really backed up. I was tired and I really didn’t feel like waiting for the line of cars to move. So I followed another vehicle and took a detour down a road I’d never been before.
Just as I was turning, a voice stirred in me that said, keep an eye out you might find a house this way… I hadn’t made it half-way down the road when I saw it. A newly renovated 3 bedroom house with a lovely yard.
I called and was able to schedule a viewing for an hour later. That was unheard of – my entire house hunting experience had consisted of me waiting for days just to take a fifteen minute tour of a house.
The house was perfect inside and out and was in a great location – our children could attend the same schools and we would be able to shop at the same grocery stores. It felt so homey. From that point, everything went smoothly – we moved two weeks later. We were even able to go from totally unpacked to completely moved in a matter of days. When it seems like things are just impossible and no matter how hard you try things just don’t work out, it may be because God has something better waiting for you.
We had been searching for so long that we had given up looking and just have faith that God would work our situation in that apartment out for us. And he did! He put things in motion in a way we weren’t able to. Only God can turn a detour from traffic into an unexpected blessing! That construction traffic is still there, but now I just smile and wait patiently. From now on traffic will be a gentle reminder to thank God for his unexpected yet magnificent plan.
