There is more to life than just the here and now
“This world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.” 1 John 2:17 (NLT)
“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” 1 John 2:17 (KJV)
Question to Consider:
Since I was made to last forever, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today?
Procrastination is seriously the one thing I need to stop doing. It’s like I get caught in a time snare of doing nothing. I don’t even like 90% of TV shows that come on, but I find myself in front of the television. If not the TV, it’s the computer, surfing the net aimlessly. At the time, things like email seem so pressing, then I find myself jumping from site to site. All the while nothing is really getting done. I’ve got to stop procrastinating and start doing more to help others. There’s an endless stream of people who need help, it doesn’t stop with my family. If I spent my time trying to make a difference, I won’t have time for the TV or the computer.
Important Quotes:
“The reason we feel we should live forever is that God wired our brains with that desire!…Your earthly body is just a temporary residence for your spirit.” (Warren, 37)
“God has a purpose for your life on earth, but it doesn’t end here. His plan involves far more than the few decades you will spend on this planet.” (Warren, 39)
“If you have relationship with God through Jesus, you don’t need to fear death. It is the door to eternity.” (Warren, 40)
Questions for Further Discussion:
What do you spend my of your time – a nonrenewable resource – doing? What should you be doing?
