A few years ago, when I was still separated I had to contend with this issue. I occurred to me that during my focus on marriage on Mondays, perhaps it would be helpful to someone if I shared my thoughts and experiences during this difficult time in my life.
As always, the people who love and support you will give you their advice and opinions on this, with the best intentions, but for the most part the advice they give may not be exactly what you need for your situation. I had many people who wondered why it was taking us so long to get divorced and others who were waiting hopefully for us to reconcile.
While we were separated most people encouraged me to date and enjoy my freedom, but one very dear friend of mine told me truthfully, that I should wait until we divorced before making any moves towards dating. Her advice was wise and loving. She said there were just too many physical and emotional complications that could occur and most importantly, it was spiritually wrong. Read the rest of this entry »
Sometimes we don’t realize it, but we find ourselves being more concerned about showing people how much we love them that we forget to give God the same attention. This video will help you sort out what it means to be after God’s own heart.
One of my favorite movies to watch with my kids is “Meet the Robinsons.” I love it because of its wonderfully powerful example of why it’s so important to just “keep moving forward” – they repeated this phrase about 50 times (okay maybe not fifty, but a lot of times). But that’s because the message was so important – no matter what may come, we have to keep moving, otherwise we’ll get trapped ruts of “shoulda-couldas” “my-life-is-overs” and “it’s-no-uses”. The problem with the rut, is that it’s a lie – it’s not true, we can keep striving, we can achieve our goals, and even if we have to start again, as long as we have breath in our lungs, it’s not over.
I found this great inspirational article that is a wonderful reminder that no matter what happens in life, we just have to keep moving forward. I hope you enjoy it. Read the rest of this entry »
There is no such thing as a dumb question. In fact, people who ask questions are usually the most inquisitive and intelligent ones because they refuse to remain ignorant. That’s a good thing. It’s important to know how much you need to tithe so that you’ll make sure you’re not robbing God and the people in your church who truly need it:
Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8 (NIV)
If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you want to make an effort to allow God to truly lead your life in every aspect, including finances. I commend you for that, you’ll find that the more you give the more you actually receive in return, although the returns are not always money – but oftentimes far more valuable. But you’ll have to find out for yourself to truly understand what I mean here. Read the rest of this entry »
People often ask me why and how do I stay so positive – I tell them it’s because I have faith. Faith is believing that no matter what the circumstance, problems/trials/tribulations/tests look like in the present – eventually it will all work out for my good. Faith is trust that God did not bring me this far to leave me. Faith is knowing that everyday is new and brings new opportunities to strengthen my faith and work on my faults. So today’s Throwback Thursday theme is Faith. Hopefully each article below will give you some new insight on ways to strengthen and further develop your faith, trust and believe in God’s plan for your life. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m so glad to see that so many people are using technology as a mission/ministry tool. Sometimes when I log in to Facebook or Twitter the inspirational quotes, scriptures, or other updates are exactly what my soul needs at that moment. At times, it’s as if God himself is saying, “Don’t give up”…”hold on”…”it’s just a test”…”I’ll see you through the storm…” and most times it really makes my day.
On the other hand, there are people who claim to be Christian, yet the write updates in a manner that totally contradicts that. They reveal personal details without tact, post negative rants, or use profanity. I’m sure they must be thinking, only my friends will see this, and maybe in some strange way this will be entertaining… (?) I don’t know, but more than your friends can see it, their friends’ friends might get it and honestly if it’s on the internet, all it takes a little cut and paste and anyone on this green earth can see it. If people paid more attention to what the Bible says about marriage, there’d be less divorces and more happy people. Sometimes I think people don’t really care about what it says – it’s just easier to be angry and just call it quits. It’s even easier when there’s a third-party involved. As humans, I guess we always think new means better, but that’s not always the case. Read the rest of this entry »
How does God speak to you? He often whispers to me through my thoughts – usually at a time when I’m feeling as if what I’m doing is going nowhere. When I need it the most, He’ll whisper a word to me that’s a thousand times more encouraging than anything else anyone could ever say. It’s those words that propel me forward every day. I’m glad to share with you Part 2 of yesterday’s topic by LaVondilyn J. Watson. Read the rest of this entry »
I found yet another article by this wonderfully inspiring writer. It spoke to my heart on a day that I really needed it. I was feeling a bit discouraged as a result of being overworked and under-rested. I’m not a morning person, yet I’ve been trying to rise early to get things done before the day starts and staying up late to fit in all of my duties. I know a virtuous woman’s lamp doesn’t go out at night, and I don’t want to complain because things are good for me. But because I’m human, I do get tired and this article breathed some life into me and re-energized my spirit. It gave me the encouragement I needed to keep on working hard in spite of my exhaustion. I hope it does the same for you. Read the rest of this entry »
She sees her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindles with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy
When it snow, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet. (Proverbs 31:18-21)
I was listening to the Michael Baisden show one afternoon during a discussion about business. He shared the statistic that most new businesses in the minority demographic, are started by women. He and his co-host seemed startled by that number and thought that more men should be more active in this area. But it all made since to me – this is not that argument about “anything you can do I can do better” – absolutely not (wrong blog, press “back if that’s what you are looking for). I’m saying it makes since because God’s ideal woman in Proverbs is a business woman. But this scripture really could apply to anyone – this ideal “virtuous person” should be diligent in taking care of business because that’s how we can afford to share and help others who are in need.
